The tower rises above the crowd, layer after layer. Genesis tells of people who set out to build a city and make a name for themselves. Their shared language is confused, and they scatter. Doré makes the scale of their ambition easy to see: the building fills the sky while small figures gather below. Look at the hands and faces in the foreground. They bring a vast story down to a human moment.

Two details to notice
- The winding tower draws the eye from the gathered people toward the clouds.
- Raised arms and turned faces give the foreground crowd its restless movement.
