The story behind the image

Abraham welcomes three visitors with water, food and rest. Their arrival leads to a promise that Sarah will have a son. The illustration presents the meeting as a spacious encounter between the traveler-like figures and their host. Hospitality gives the story its beginning; the unexpected promise gives it a future.
