With the water gone, Hagar fears for her son Ishmael’s life. Genesis describes her grief in the wilderness, followed by a message of reassurance and the discovery of a well. The illustration places her small, isolated figure among enormous rocks and sparse vegetation. That difference in scale gives the scene its emotional weight: a story of being heard when the landscape offers little comfort.
