Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refuse a royal command to worship a golden image. Daniel 3 describes their punishment in a furnace heated with fierce intensity. King Nebuchadnezzar then sees four figures walking inside, although only three men were thrown in. They emerge unharmed, and he acknowledges their deliverance. The illustration draws the eye from the gathered spectators toward the brightness and figures within the flames. The story’s courage begins before rescue: the men say they will remain faithful even if they are not delivered. That resolve gives the dramatic scene its lasting meaning.
