Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse King Nebuchadnezzar’s command to worship a golden image. In Daniel 3, their refusal leads to a blazing furnace, yet the king sees four figures moving unharmed inside. The three emerge without burns or even the smell of fire, and the king acknowledges their deliverance. The illustration sets the figures amid light and billowing flames beneath a gathering of observers. An interpretive theme is courage without a guaranteed escape: before the ordeal, the men declare that they will remain faithful even if rescue does not come.
